School Background

St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Studley is a co-educational Catholic Voluntary Aided Primary school for pupils between 4 and 11.  There are currently 226 pupils on roll. The school is large enough to provide a broad and balanced curriculum but small enough for each child to be known and recognised for their own talents and particular needs. As a Catholic school, we aim to develop the spiritual, academic and pastoral needs of each child.  We encourage all pupils to achieve their full potential and develop into caring human beings.

The original building was opened in 1975.  It is situated next to Studley Leisure Centre and Swimming Pool, opposite the Recreation Ground and Village Hall. Our KS2 children visit the Studley Leisure Centre sports hall and swimming pool termly for athletics, swimming lessons and tennis tuition.

School Building

St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Studley has undergone extensive building works in recent years. Building works and refurbishment have resulted in the provision of a ‘new, modern school’. Our school building comprises school entrance, staff offices and amenities including staff room, Reception & KS1 class rooms, KS2 class rooms, including cloakrooms and toilets. We also have a disabled toilet in the entrance lobby and modern kitchen facilities.

The teaching areas are divided into Key Stages –

  • Early Years Foundation Stage consists of a Reception Class
  • Key Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2)
  • Key Stage 2 (Years 3,4,5 & 6)

Teaching areas are grouped around a large central Hall used for school assemblies, productions, sports, dining and events. Leading off is an internal courtyard used as a Prayer & Meditation Garden, and a Research Library/Computer Suite, a Music Room and areas for teaching Special Education Needs. Both Key Stages 1&2 are fitted with Practical Areas used for art and design, creative work and cooking. All main Classrooms are fitted with disabled access doors and ramps leading onto the playgrounds. All doors throughout the building are fire doors and all Classrooms, Cloakrooms, Main Hall and Staff Room are fitted with Fire Exit doors, again onto the playgrounds leading to the Fire Assembly Point.

Outside Areas

Our central Fire Assembly Point is situated in the centre of the playing field. All Key Stages have dedicated and secured outside play areas, security gates are controlled by staff only. There are several dedicated outside teaching areas for all our pupils – within our Eco Garden, our glass Eco Dome and our Garden Lodge. We have all-weather play equipment to foster imaginative play – a woodland play area with wooden creature carvings and seating, a trim trail, a willow tunnel, several climbing frames, a tyre park and an eco garden complete with an eco lodge.

Foundation Stage occupies an enclosed outside space with both playground and green field. Key Stages 1 & 2 have their own dedicated playgrounds which lead onto a large playing field. KS2 playgrounds are laid out for sporting activities such as netball. Outdoor sports such as football and rounders are played on the school’s playing field. The field also provides running tracks, high jump and long jump pits and more opportunities for outside play and games by all the children when the weather permits.

Childcare Facility and Nursery

Two mobile classrooms on site provide accommodation and home to our before and after school child care service provided by 'Little Oaks' and our new teacher-led nursery 'Little St. Mary's Nursery'.
