St Vincent de Paul

St Vincent de Paul Alliance

Nothing goes to waste at St. Mary's. We are now in alliance with Steve Martin and the wonderful people from the St. Vincent de Paul Society or SVP. They are an internataional Christian voluntary organistion dedicated to tackling poverty and the disadvantaged by providing practical assistance to those in need. Steve will be coming into school on the 2nd and 3rd Friday of every month to collect all the uneaten fruit and vegetable from KS1. The collection will be cut up and added to fruit salads and distributed at a Birmingham soup kitchen.

St. Mary's Mini Vinnies

The Society of St Vincent de Paul has been engaging with young people and education since its earliest days. The new 'Mini Vinnies' programme – is a ground-breaking Primary Schools initiative, based on good work done in Australia, and piloted in the Diocese of Shrewsbury, it is seen as having, the potential to significantly contribute to the future of our Society.

'Mini Vinnies' are children aged between 7 to 11 who, with the permission of their parents are going to lead on the school’s charitable outreach work. As Mini Vinnies, the youngsters have their own Prayer, Pledge and Badge, and a dedicated website:

Mrs Preece has kindly agreed to coordinate the group and we hope to give you regular updates as to their progress and contribution. The group will make the pledge at the end of Mass.

The pupils are pictured in front of our fabulous YEAR OF MERCY DOOR. This door has been designed and built by Mrs Gould and her husband and will be opened for all assemblies and Masses during the coming year to remind us of our mercifully duties. We would like to thank Mr and Mrs Gould for their efforts - it is a super piece of work.
